What It Is

Forestry Mulching & Brush Clearing

Forestry mulching processes woody vegetation into shredded material generally left on the surface. It can suit selective vegetation reduction or opening overgrown areas where removing every root is not the objective. Bush hogging or rotary brush cutting is a different approach for grass, weeds and lighter brush. Neither method alone creates a construction-ready building pad.

Why It Matters

The right approach makes the difference.

Start with your intended result: improved access, reduced woody growth, a selectively opened parcel or a later construction phase. Wet ground, slope, rock, hidden wire, retained trees and neighboring property affect the approach. Agree on boundaries, vegetation limits, material handling and the finish before work starts; do not select equipment from acreage alone.

How It Works

Our Process

Straightforward steps — no surprises, no shortcuts.

1

Describe the Property

Send the town, approximate area, access photos, vegetation and intended use. Identify retained trees, fences and any known buried or overhead utilities.

2

Assess Conditions

Review slope, ground moisture, obstacles and nearby people or structures. Confirm boundaries and any applicable permissions before selecting a method.

3

Confirm Equipment & Scope

Confirm the actual loader configuration, attachment suitability, safety provisions and vegetation limits. Separate cutting from stump extraction, hauling and grading in the written quote.

4

Plan the Next Use

Discuss mulch left on site, regrowth, access and whether separate drainage, grading or stabilization is needed. Clearing does not guarantee permanent vegetation control.

What We Offer

Options & Materials

Woody vegetation reduction assessment
Selective brush clearing around agreed retained features
Large-acreage rotary brush cutting assessment
Access-area clearing planning
Separately scoped stump, hauling, grading and drainage work

Quick Answers

Common Questions

Q.Does mulching remove all roots and stumps?

No. Surface vegetation processing is not the same as excavating roots or removing stumps. Discuss remaining material and any separate grubbing or construction preparation in the estimate.

Q.Can you quote by acreage alone?

Acreage is only a starting point. Vegetation size and density, slopes, rocks, access, wet ground, obstacles and material handling affect scope. Photos help the initial discussion, but site conditions determine the method and estimate.

Forestry Mulching Equipment and Site Suitability

Owner-confirmed equipment includes a John Deere 335 P-Tier compact track loader, a Caterpillar 289D compact track loader, a John Deere MH60D forestry mulching head and several bush hog / rotary brush-cutting attachments. The brush-cutter models have not been identified. This inventory is not a statement that every attachment can operate on both loaders.

John Deere rates the 335 P-Tier at 118 gross horsepower; its specification table lists 25 gpm standard flow and 44 gpm total with the high-flow option. Caterpillar rates the 289D at 73.7 net horsepower, with 23 gpm standard flow and an available High Flow XPS maximum of 32 gpm. Gross and net power are different measures, not a direct performance comparison. These manufacturer model specifications are not proof of the hydraulic packages installed on our particular machines.

The MH60D has a 60-inch cutting width, a manufacturer hydraulic-flow range of 24–45 gpm and a required case-drain connection. Deere advertises up to 8-inch trees and 12-inch stumps as rated maximums, not guaranteed capability on a particular property. Species, material condition, terrain, obstacles and the fully configured carrier affect suitability and working limits.

Compatibility must be verified before assigning the MH60D to either loader: actual hydraulic flow and pressure, electrical controls, case drain, coupler, guarding and all manufacturer safety requirements matter. Deere’s published MH60D compatibility table names other loader models; it does not establish compatibility with our 335 P-Tier or 289D. Optional high-flow specifications are not confirmation that high-flow packages are installed.

Questions to Resolve Before the Estimate

How is forestry mulching different from bush hogging?

Mulching targets woody vegetation and reduces material into surface mulch. Bush hogging and rotary brush cutting generally address grass, weeds and lighter brush. The growth, ground conditions and desired finish determine the appropriate attachment and scope; this is not routine weekly lawn mowing.

Does the MH60D work on both of your loaders?

Do not assume it does. Carrier and attachment selection depends on the installed configuration, pressure, electrical controls, case drain, coupler, guarding and manufacturer safety requirements, not hydraulic flow alone. Ask which setup is proposed for the work; an optional high-flow package is not assumed on either loader.

What should stay protected around a mulching area?

Identify fences, buildings, retained trees, utility features, paths and neighboring property before agreeing on the work boundary. Discuss access, obstacles and any areas that must stay undisturbed. The proposed machine setup and site conditions determine workable limits; do not approach operating equipment or assume everything up to a fence can be cut.

Can you guarantee removal of every 8-inch tree or 12-inch stump?

No. Those figures are Deere’s advertised rated maximums for the head, not a promise for a particular job. Material, terrain, access, obstacles and the verified carrier configuration determine working limits. Complete stump and root extraction is a separate scope.

Where can I request an estimate?

Discuss properties in Lebanon, Gallatin, Mt. Juliet, Nashville, Bethpage and Castalian Springs, and nearby Middle Tennessee areas. Share the actual site location, vegetation photos, approximate area and intended use. Service-area coverage does not claim a staffed office or completed job in every town.

What should the written quote confirm?

Confirm boundaries, retained trees, equipment access, vegetation limits, whether mulch remains, handling of hidden debris, any hauling or stump work, and separate grading or drainage. Ask how weather and wet ground affect scheduling rather than assuming a fixed completion time.

Will mulch prevent erosion or stop regrowth permanently?

No permanent result is guaranteed. Surface material is not a substitute for a site-specific drainage or erosion-control plan, and vegetation can regrow. Discuss later maintenance, stabilization and runoff management separately.
